Thank you for joining me today. This is the, my tool case I use for everyday. This is like, almost, like the case that goes to every single job. Now, everybody has their own preferences. Actually, I almost prefer a slightly bigger case. I tend to specialize, in our company, I tend to specialize in the lock out or locked in their house or out of a cabinet, bathroom, whatever. So I like to do lock outs. With all these big box hardware stores selling the cheapest, crappiest locks to the public that were getting malfunctions like crazy. People are getting locked out, locked in. They’re failing like crazy. Plus, we have so much new construction, they’re putting in crap locks. They’re putting in $10 dead bolts that don’t last. We’re getting malfunctions like crazy. So my main thing that I do is lock outs, you know, quick rekeys. I spend a lot of my time in the office, but I love going out and doing lock out. So I’ll just grab my kit and we’ll go over all my different kits in the other videos.

Lock Installation Kit

But I have an installation for installing lock kit. I have a kit for doing, like, large rekeys. This is just short and sweet and does lock outs. Sometimes, I put this on a wheeled cart and on the wheeled cart, we’ll have extra locks for what I think is for the job if I have to replace, but again, this is mine. Everybody has their own preferences. Some people, we’ll just see. This is just one of many. I tend to have a box per job. If I have broken keys and locks, I have another little bag. We’ll go over that in another video. So this is just lock outs. Your locked out of your house, locked out of something, office, quick, easy rekeys, remove and replace a faulty lock. So this is my kit. I always have my picks and we’ll go in details everything.

Lock Picks

I usually carry two cases of picks. I like my picks. This is my favorite set. We’ll go over that. We’ll find the other ones in a bit.

Lock Lubricates

I like WD-40. Now, I use Tri-Flow is my lubricant that I like and there’s advantage and disadvantages to it, dry or whatever. I like Tri-Flow. Use it a lot. When I pick locks, I use WD-40. If I can’t pick a lock, and I spray it with WD-40, it always opens for me. I have, my friends, they can’t pick a lock and then they use Tri-Flow. It’s personal preference. I think it’s a mental problem with me. I think I’ve just been using Tri-Flow my whole life. This is what I’m used to. And of course,

Milwaukee Drill

I have Milwaukee. We’re not sponsored by Milwaukee. I just like to standardize my batteries. So I have my little, cordless drill. This is not a brushless. This is a really, this thing, I think this thing’s like 12 years old. It’s over 10 years old. And I like the batteries and I got my LED light and it takes the same battery, so, and I love these because I have the little, I can see what my battery power is on that. So cordless, this is only a cordless screwdriver. It’s what I like. I always take a drill. It’s not a hammer drill. I have a hammer drill in the truck if I need something more heavy duty. This is the FUEL system. This one’s getting pretty old now. The next videos, I’ve, replacing the three amp batteries. I got one smaller, more power. The half size ones, I just don’t find have the guts to drill, if I have to drill out a lock, a sheer line or its malfunctioned, I gotta drill out the screws. So you’ll see the new battery in another video, right after this, coming up, that I’m replacing. It’ll be lighter and way more power. So it’s not a hammer drill, just for basic stuff. Again, I like the batteries. I standardized the batteries.

Loid

This is just a milk jug or a Lloyd. I have videos on this. I don’t know how, this gets me into a lot of locks. There’s so much gap in the door. I just use this. And I slip the lock. Lots of videos on me using a Lloyd, is the proper name, to slip the lock, way better than a credit card, there’s other materials, and I’ve got some new videos coming up soon with me making different versions, more heavy duty. But again, this one, it’s just a milk jug and it gets me in so many locks.

Tools to Slip Open Locks

Oh, these are my next, a lot of times, if I can’t pick it or it won’t be picked or I can slip it. So I have, this is just a painter’s tool. This will open up latches. It’s already made. It’s ready to go. It’s inexpensive. It does the trick. So I think they use this for cleaning the rollers, opening the lids. Great tool, use it all the time. And then I have just some flat ones, different things and just for slipping latches. And that’s my three main ones I use. It’s all good.

Pliers

Let’s get into, I like a large pair of vice grips. I have my Hex Key sets. This is a new one. Video coming up on this. So I have the metric and I have the standard. Always got to have those. We get into my other pick set. I like picks. So I have, ones that I have here are for my pocket. This is always in the kit. I’ll go into these more in depth.

Lock Installation Tools

You know, if we are replacing the lock, and I gotta mortise it out, if there’s a drive in, I gotta mortise it out, I just have these in there. They should go in my installation bag. My basic drills. It may say Milwaukee, but I have a little bit of everything in here and we’ll go over the drill preferences in another video, And I go through a lot of eight, eighth-inch and quarter-inch drills. I like the jobber bits, the blue steel, some people call them jobber bits. They’re very forgiving. They don’t snap, but I have my coal bolts and whatever, it’s for drilling stainless or really high security locks. I have lots and lots of drill bits. And I’ve had videos on these. They’re Megapros. And this one just has all your standard Roberts, Phillips, has some torques. These are great. This one’s for the Hex. You know, just all in one spot. And this one, if you don’t have it, get it. It’s got all these security bits. I have videos on each one of these. This is just showing you my everyday kit. This is kind of interesting. This is actually for opening up a car, for getting a little bit of leverage so I can get my airbags in there. So I use this sometimes, I gotta just spread the door a little bit. And I don’t wanna do damage to it. This just holds it, you know, spreads it nicely, just to get a little bit more leverage into the latch or sometimes the faulty deadbolts, the bolt is not going back for mostly malfunctions. That’s just another little tool to help. Always get the vice grips or the channel grips, just handy. We do a lot of wellness checks for police, different agencies, you know, with the animal control bylaw officers with the various police departments. So I have a bigger kit that gets us ready for hitting almost anything, when we have to open up something, when it’s involving a warrant for the police. That’s another kit. This is just my small vice grips. I always like my Wera screwdrivers. This is a flat head and I’ve ground it down a little bit so it just fits perfectly. Sometimes, you know, you get the customers where the plug has come out of the lock. I can just put this in there, turn it, open up the door. It’s got the, you know, strike all the way through. Just more little Wera’s flat heads, you know, if we’re doing Adams Rite, I’ve taken out the mortise cylinder, the little flat head screw in there, sometimes they’re Allen keys. A lot of times they’re just little flat head. So I just like to have various sizes of that. I got two of these. This should go in the other kit. Again, that’s the Megapro. I don’t know why have this, had this since I was an apprentice. My granddad had it. It just always in my tool case. It’s, I don’t really use it that much. It’s just good luck. Another one of my flat heads. Oh, you can’t go wrong. Gotta have a good, aw, this Mac Tool. I like this. If I have to depress the retainer, it’s just heavy duty, lasts forever.

Pry Bars

Another little, tiny pry bar. Again, two pry bars. Sometimes you gotta just open up that, spread that door just a little bit more, gotta be a little bit tougher than using this one that won’t make any marks. Sometimes a break in, everything’s busted up, the door’s all beat all to heck. These two little pry bars, yes, there’s bigger pry bars. That’s in another kit and I’ll show you in another video. This is just my everyday carry and we got little vice grips. It’s all ready to impression. And sometimes when impression locks, or just grab something small. What do they call that? Castle nut. It’s got both sides. Boy, if you don’t have this, and you’re pulling apart some of the grade one lever locks, jeez, you’re toast without this. So you gotta have that castle nut in there. I like to have one chisel, one inch, just for if I have to mortise it out, the latch a little bit. Always gotta have my adjustable and I have a larger one in my installation kit for using, you’ll see. If you watch the video, you’ll see why we have a larger one and what we’re doing for metal doors with that. Couple more, again, like I said, I do a lot, this is my lock out kit. I’m doing lock out. So I’ve got various, little pry bars. You know, sometimes you can force the latch, slip the latch. I got a little Snap-on set, little plasticky one. This thing works out quite well. What else do we have? A couple more screwdrivers. I just like my screwdrivers and an awl, nice little pointy. If my large one is too big, I got the little one. I can just push the retainer or somebody’s broken key, another awl, I really don’t need that one in there.

Circlips Pliers

Oh, circlips. Still get a lot of locks, mostly the older-style stuff. But if you don’t have this, let’s take the Wei, the old-style Weiser Key-in-Knobs. You got that little retainer clip on the back. I always get the Snap-on ones cause they last for, you know, the replacement, if something breaks, they last forever. Always have these in there. Hardly use ’em but when I do need it, I need it. A needle nose, you know those pliers. Have you ever get locked out and the malfunction is actually in the bolt of the lock or the latch? So I drilled off the deadbolt. I pulled and pried all the bits and pieces to get that bolt back. And sometimes the thing is just falling apart so bad. You just got to strip it down piece by piece. So this gets right in there and pulls it out. One inch spade bit. And it’s amazing how many doors, the doorframe they have not, they drill a half-inch hole for a deadbolt. Just gotta open up that little bit more. So I always have one of these in there. This used to come with like every Schlage Lock, super handy. Jeez, these are like gold now, if you can get your hands on ’em. Always have a couple of these around. What else do we have in the kit? More little screwdrivers, more little awls, you know, hook awl for poking. Some of these are Mac, some of these are Snap-on, Wera, or sometimes they’re just something cheap that I’ve just modified. Of course, lipstick, see the video, but it basically is for marking the bolt to see where the door is scratching. Gotta have lipstick and red, any color you want, really. Now, I always carry a few popular keys. I have about five keys ready. Precuts, Schlage, Kwikset, Weiser, whatever your popular locks are. I always have them in my, a few in my kit. If I know what the customer has, I’ll precut the keys. I hate cutting keys on the job site. So I’ll have sets of five or 10 ready to go. This is my mini LAB re-keying kit. I love this. I, you know, I’m just going in to rekey one or two locks or whatever. So I just throw my pins in here. I got the 005. I have the 003s. I prefer the 005. I know most people prefer the 003. I got the Wedge kit in my service truck. This crams in here. It gets it going. So that’s for my rekeying. Here’s my kit. This is my basic rekeying, or rekey kit and also a few other things. So I always throw a couple of my favorite picks. One of my favorite picks at the moment is the hook and ball. This is a Rytan. I got some Petersons. I got some that I’ve made up. So I have that little kit in there. I throw a couple of shims in there, dental pick. This is an Allen key for Lorilocks. Boy, I hate those things. If I don’t have this, then I’m screwed. I have my end cap removal tool.

Kwikset Removal Tool

I have my pickle, your Kwikset cylinder removal tool. Some people call it the pickle. I got a little follower in there. A couple blanks for shimming. If I have to put on the end of my drill, I put out the little grinders to drill out the strike, especially at the change of seasons. Basically, I got different versions for just really grinding up the strike when they’re sticking. Oh, of course, my tweezers, more little followers, a couple of things for pulling out broken keys. Again, this is just the small, quick kit just to pull out, if I get a broken key. That just, this use, and these are Peterson’s. This is fantastic. I think they’re only $5 each. Just spiral it in there and pull it out. That’s just amazing for pulling out broken keys. Let me show you my picks. I got, this is my everyday. This is like, these are my two sets I always carry. So here I have my favorites in here. I got my plug spinner, different tension wrenches, again, different picks. This, you know, this set will do almost everything.

Plug Spinner

And again, the plug spinner, A1 Plug Spinner. I have Rytans. I got a little bit of everything. They’re all good. There’s another little kit with just a, sort of, a backup of my favorites. You know, here’s my Peterson, Rytans, A1 Plug Spinner. My Rytan Plug Spinner’s in another kit. Right now, these are my favorites. My HPC followers set. So this will do, so basically, it’s sort of four followers, here’s the most popular and they got the ends are all done. So we got 1, 2, 3, 4. It’s a great little set. Of course, I have the ones that I make, but then this is just a ready-made kit, ready to go. It’s always there. We make these up ourselves. I just buy six-foot, one-inch brass, cut ’em and then we shape ’em. You know, when I got some time, shape ’em for what we need done for various, but they all start off like this, just for the simple locks, quick, easy, fast. And this is when we get a little bit more complex designs, some locks that are giving us trouble. This is my kit. This is my everyday, it’s the first thing I grab to do a lock out. Yes, there’s more stuff to have. And I have bigger kits. This doesn’t do everything. I’m always interested in everybody’s new ideas. I love seeing new tools. I like seeing how different people use different, how they set up their bags. And this is just, and this is a PACKOUT bag. If I go to a larger job, the PACKOUTs are kinda nice. And it also, redesigning a new service truck. So the PACKOUTs just lock in there really, really nice. So, and this fits on top of the little wheeled thing. If I get a bigger job, I’d take the wheels. If I got stairs or whatever, I can put this on top of a rack. So I think I need one slightly bigger. This is a lot of tools. It’s what I like. This will, I rarely have to go back to my service truck.

And again, it depends what I’m doing for the job. I have other videos, shows my broken key extractor set. I have an installation set. I have a big set we’re putting together for more brute force and ignorance, wellness checks, assisting the police on opening doors. A lot of times they don’t want to bust down the doors. It’s, we can come in nicer. Even if we have to pick it, if we’re locked out, we can pick it real easy. Or if we even have to drill the lock, we’re set up for it. I’ll have to tell the story another day, we just had a job from hell and everything went wrong. And that’s what made me re, sort of decide how I have to do my major lock out kit, where we have to go in, of course, nobody’s inside, so we’re not worried about people being inside, but we still have to get through in a timely manner, a little bit quicker than normal. So it’s gonna involve probably saws-saws, cordless cutters, grinders, larger, more heavy duty drills. And standby for my next video on my, the new battery for this, should make it lighter. It should make it a little bit better, more power, lighter. And I’ve tried the half size, the 1.5s on these. They can do the job. But really, if we’re drilling a lock or installing the lock, you need a little bit more umph.

So I think I found a happy medium between the half size of this, the 1.5s. This is the 3.0s, and I have a new 3.0 and a really interesting video on that. Give your suggestions. What are the tools you carry on your everyday carry going in? I hope this is a help for beginner locksmiths. You know, this is 25 plus years of me doing jobs. And this is my kit. I’m always interested in how you do it. Have some suggestions. There’s always more we can carry. And I have other kits for other jobs, bigger jobs, installation jobs, or more complex lock outs. This is just a very, very simple kit. And it probably does, for me, my simple lock outs and my simple rekeys, this probably does 90% of what I need. Okay, hope you enjoyed the video. Please like it. August Smart Lock Not Opening Vancouver West

Mr. Locksmith Vancouver West: (604)760-7620

Mr. Locksmith Automotive(604) 259-7617

The August Smart Lock is installed on the inside of the door and it on the outside is the existing deadbolt. A lot of times these deadbolts are just garbage deadbolts to start with that are going to fail. And then you have the homeowner installing the lock on the inside it seems to be doomed for failure. And that is why we are running across a lot of these lately and some of it is in my opinion is poor design of the lock and they are putting it onto crappy locks on the outside. I have had no luck at all installing these.  Also, I am not happy with them at all. I advise my clients not to install it. Here I have an August lock and it has August lock on the inside. Also, you can see it is an August smart key lock on the outside and a Weiser or Kwikset.  I run across both of these now first of all I am not a fan of the Weiser or Kwikset smart key locks. They have a huge amount of failures.

August Smart Lock Problems Vancouver West BC

In this case, it is not the lock, the key is turning but it’s not retracting the deadbolt. What normally happens is and what happened in this case is the August lock has failed. On the inside it is jammed up. Also on top of that and the batteries are dead. There have been other problems the customer cannot use their app to unlock it from their internet or Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Also they cannot open it with the key. I have had failed deadbolts at the same time in this case the deadbolt is okay. It is functioning but and you’ll see this when I get it open the bolt retracts no problem. What I have to do here is I have to drill the mounting screws that hold it on the door. Their are the two mounting screws. Now I just I pre-drilled that was hard to video this and drill at the same time so it’s pretty easy to find where the mounting screws are and I just drilled out the mounting screws. It drills up pretty easy.

August Lock Not Working Manually Vancouver West BC

I use good quality drill bits. I just use HSS steel. I have drilled off the lock on the outside and the August smart lock mechanism on the inside just falls down. Then it is quite simple now all I have to do is take my screwdriver and open the door. It is not the problem of the lock in this case or the bolt. What has happened is the August lock has totally failed. It is jammed up the tailpiece on the deadbolt and I had to drill it get it off. What I do then in this case we just installed because the house is for sale I just installed a Schlage deadbolt. I like these this is just a very simple one, not expensive. It is the commercial grade Schlage deadbolt and I’m quite happy with. It is a good lock. The Keyless Locks I prefer is the electronic Schlage Deadbolt that would be the one I would recommend.

3D printing is the process of creating a three-dimensional object from a digital design using additive manufacturing techniques. The process involves creating a design using computer-aided design (CAD) software, which is then loaded into a 3D printer that creates the object by adding successive layers of material until the final product is complete.

3D printing has a wide range of applications, including rapid prototyping, product development, and manufacturing, as well as in industries such as healthcare, aerospace, automotive, and architecture. It can also be used for creating one-of-a-kind items, such as customized jewelry or art pieces.

3D Printing Schlage SC1 Key Vancouver West BC

3D printing a Schlage key, or any other key for that matter, is not a recommended practice. Keys are designed to fit very specific tolerances and 3D printing may not produce the precision needed for a key to properly function.

Additionally, many keys, including Schlage keys, are protected by patent, and copying or reproducing a key without the proper authorization may be illegal.

If you need a new Schlage key, it is recommended to obtain one by calling Mr. Locksmith to ensure the key is properly made and functions as intended. Attempting to 3D print a Schlage key may result in a key that does not work or even damages the lock, which can be costly to repair or replace.

3D Printing for the Locksmith

While 3D printing technology has advanced significantly in recent years, there are still limitations to what can be produced with this method. The quality of the final product can depend on a number of factors, including the type of printer, the quality of the material used, and the design of the object itself. Additionally, 3D printing may not be the most efficient or cost-effective method for mass production of certain items.

Overall, 3D printing has become an increasingly important and versatile technology, and its continued development is expected to have a significant impact on a wide range of industries and fields and locksmithing in the future.

In addition to lock pinning trays, 3D printing can also be used to create other locksmith tools, such as lock picks, tension wrenches, and key gauges. 3D printing can allow for more precise and detailed designs, which can result in more effective and efficient tools. However, it’s important to note that 3D printing locksmith tools may not always be the most durable or reliable option, especially for tools that need to withstand heavy use or significant force. Professional-grade locksmith tools are often made from high-quality materials and are designed to withstand the demands of the job. 3D Printing 3D printing is the process of creating a three-dimensional object from a digital design using additive manufacturing techniques. The process involves creating a design using computer-aided design (CAD) software, which is then loaded into a 3D printer that creates the object by adding successive layers of material until the final product is complete.

3D Printing Designs Vancouver West

3D printing has a wide range of applications, including rapid prototyping, product development, and manufacturing, as well as in industries such as healthcare, aerospace, automotive, and architecture. It can also be used for creating one-of-a-kind items, such as customized jewelry or art pieces. 3D Printing for the Locksmith While 3D printing technology has advanced significantly in recent years, there are still limitations to what can be produced with this method.

Mr. Locksmith™

This is the XHorse. It’s a key tool plus. We’ll get all into the bits and pieces. I just got it – literally, a couple of hours ago and we’re gonna unbox it. And we’re going to take a peek at it, and hopefully, it’s got some cool features that I really need badly – and then we’ll talk about that too. So, let’s see what we got here. Let’s unbox it, and, let’s see if it’s got the special cables we need.

Okie dokie. What do we got here? Nice case. Here is the XHorse Key Tool Plus. So let’s see what we got here. I’ve never seen one, I’ve been looking at them online, and this may have exactly what I need. So, instructions – most instructions are useless so let’s hope for the best.

Right off the bat, it looks kind of rugged – it looks pretty good. I’ve heard good things but let’s see how it works for us. We got a couple of ports, and everything – looks really, really nice. Apparently, this can reset Toyota proxes and we’ll be putting that to the test. We’re actually going to use this as our go-to-machine. We’ve got quite a bit newer cars, and we were running across problems so let’s see if that’s got that.

What do we have in here? Cable – looks like the recharging cable. OBD 2 cable. Serial. Port connection. Couple of adapters. It looks like they’re very well built. And Xhorse supertransponders.  I’ve been happy with some of their other products – we’ll talk about that later.

What more do we got here? More cables. I haven’t looked it up but I think this is the real problem I have right now. The newer Fords – if they go into alarm, you have to reset the alarm and nothing we have can do it. So, this is what started the big push. If you looked into my previous videos, I have five or six car key programmers and nothing has this at the moment. Though, I think one of the products may have something but this is what we’re running across – an awful lot of. Newer Fords, the alarm is going off, and you can not program a key without this and the compatible software in here.

What else we got. Box is excellent. This looks like a flasher. This looks like stuff to reprogram. Again, this is just a quick unboxing. We’re gonna put this right into the field starting in the morning. So this is that kind of “late-at-night, got-it, wanted-to-unbox-it, show-it-off.” And, we’re going to play with it. Give me a couple of weeks and we’re going to have some in-depth programming of this. We’ll see what it can or can’t do. And we’re going to use this as our go-to-programmer. And then see how we do. We’re going to use the Chrysler Star – hopefully that’s in here. We have some stars cables anyway, but, we’re running across those Chrysler, Dodge, Ram with the star cable.

So, we’re going to give this a really good test starting in the morning. I’ll have some little updates as we go along. We’ll start seeing what it can or can’t do. So far, impressed. Let’s see what happens!

Knipex Bolt Cutter Review

I have had this Knipex Bolt Cutter Tool for the last couple years. It is expensive. I have had this for about two years now. It is a Knipex. It’s a German made. It is a fantastic tool. I have this in my tool case and I use it everyday. Because of the way this Bolt Cutter has performed as a superb tool, I purchase more Knipex products now and I am extremely happy with them. Cry once or cry twice. Cry once buying it. It lasts forever. What I mostly use my Knipex for, what I use mine for is basically when I get a screw too long, I will just cut it down to size, it’s just one-handed. It’s easy. I went slow on this because, so it’s one-handed. It’s easy to chop your screw down. I can take it right down to the thread. You just have to be careful of when it shoots through. If you get a deadbolt or a deadbolt with the lazy cam and I got a skinnier door and I gotta chop this back a little bit and it’s one that doesn’t have the lines on it already. The Knipex, now you just gotta be careful when you shoot it out. No problem at all. Even the hardened steel tail pieces of the hardened ones, it just slices these right through. The other ones don’t do it. For a small package, the Knipex is a fantastic little bolt cutter. It’s extremely handy for me, especially when I’m doing installations. I use it to cut screws and tail pieces every day now. So, love it. It’s been in my case, look at it. It looks brand new. It’s been in my case for about two years and the jaws are still perfect and I’ve probably cut a few things that were too big for this and the jaws are absolutely perfect. Please subscribe to my video. Please like it. Hope you enjoyed it. I have more videos coming on more locksmith tools that I use every day. I hope you enjoyed watching this video. Knipex Bolt Cutters For Locksmith | Mr. Locksmith Vancouver West

This is the second most little tool I’ve ever bought. It’s a Knipex pliers, it was under $50. Look at the size of this, it’s tiny. It’s extremely strong from what I’ve seen. I bought these for my pick case. I’ll have some stuff showing my little tools that I use for broken keys and whatnot. This is just gonna come in handy for grabbing little bits and pieces. It’s overpriced, yeah, I wanted one and I’ll show you how I put it in my, in my pick case.

Knipex Pliers

Here is a comparison, these are new in my kit now in my everyday carry locksmith tools, and here’s the new tool. Apparently there’s one, that’s a five inch one. I don’t have that one yet. So I’m going to probably add that to my collection. This is my Knipex pliers that I have so far, and they’ve been updating my locksmith tools for these, and I’ll show you how this goes in my little pick case. First thing I grab when I go to do a lockout, most times.

The little pair of Knipex pliers are right in my case for every day, every single locksmith job, this is in my kit and that’s my little case for it. So I have a bigger pick case, but this is just first thing I grab, I got a lockout, go to the door. This is my first kit I grab. Hope you enjoyed the video, please subscribe, please hit the like button, and I hope you look forward to, I have some more interesting videos on locksmith tools coming up.

How to Replace Mazda Battery Remote Head Key Vancouver West

How to Replace Mazda Battery Remote Head Key: This is a remote head key for a Mazda 3, fits the Mazda 6, Miata and the Mx5.

Mr. Locksmith Vancouver West Automotive : (604) 259-7617

How to Replace Mazda Battery Remote Head Key

This is an interesting Mazda Key. It’s a flip key, so you hide it away. Now to get the battery is a little bit confusing. Make sure the key is flipped out.

Now you can just barely see it, there’s kind of like two little notches, would you look way down there. Now actually, my flathead is too big to get in there. Nothing else I has to do the trick. My leatherman let me down, this is the first time in a long time. This it the new toy. Basically, you can see it in there, you just sort of depress and it just pulls apart. So it’s the one closest to the ring, just a press. Again, the key has to be out, go from the end to the end, a little spot there, just give it a little depress. I bet you a paperclip would do the trick too. It doesn’t take much pressure, just little tiny bit of pressure, and it comes apart. Still more to do. Now, we have not the two outside parts, but the bottom part there is actually a little tiny arrow there, now you can take your regular flathead, and give it a little twist. And it comes apart really nice. And then there’s your battery, its’ there. Put in your flathead again. A little bit of overkill, a little bit of a twist. This is one is a, again popular.

Mazda Key Battery Replacement

The CR1620, again it’s got a little positive. Positive goes down, positive down, if you get confused there is the context. Just give it a little, just line it up, it’ll clip together. Again, I’d like to put in a good quality battery. I like the energizers or the Duracells. Those are my favorite. I don’t like the dollar store ones. I’m just gonna through this again, because again this one gets a little confusing. It’s a remote head key. Flip the key out first, if you look down the sides, as closest to there. And you need .. A paperclip would do the trick. I’m gonna use my, just depress it gently, you don’t have to go overkill here. What we’re pushing on is right there.

CR1620 Battery

CR1620 Battery

That’s all we’re really pushing on. Just to hold it in. So a paperclip would do the trick. And then the middle slot, just take your screwdriver, flathead, give it a little twist. It doesn’t take much pressure. And it just comes apart. There’s our battery CR1620. There’s a whole set up. Clip it in. Just line up our pieces. Yeah, you don’t have to force anything. Everything will just clip together nicely. If you have to force it, you’re doing something wrong. Goes together, close the other nicely. Again, here we have, is a four button Mazda remote header key. I hope this video has been a help to you.

I hope you enjoyed watching this video. Subscribe to my channel.

Best Residential Door Lock Vancouver West

Best Residential Door Lock Vancouver West is the Schlage B60N Deadbolt. Mr. Locksmith Vancouver West. Schlage has slightly redesigned the exterior of the B60N. It keeps its ANSI/BHMA Grade 1 security rating and adds a new BHMA Residential AAA rating.

Mr. Locksmith Vancouver West: (604) 760-7620

Mr. Locksmith Vancouver West (Kitsilano, UBC, Kerrisdale, etc.) : (604) 760 7620

Best Residential Door Lock

The Schlage B60N is essentially a residential version of a high-security deadbolt lock. It’s rated Grade 1 by ANSI/BHMA, meaning it has passed the same hammering, prying, sawing, picking, and kicking tests as the toughest high-security locks that Schlage produces. Experts told us it’s extremely difficult to lockpick the B60N—which, honestly, is not much of a concern anyway, because a Grade 1 lock like this is secure enough that a determined thief would be more likely to bypass it and find another way into the home.

Features

  • Unique Snap & Stay™ design
  • Easy installation: One-person project; no extra hands needed
  • ANSI Grade 1–professional grade security
  • Biggest adjustable bolt available
  • Pick and bump resistant
  • Best Residential Door Lock

  • Backset: 2-3/8″ – 2-3/4″
  • Throw: 9/16″
  • Strike: 1-1/8″ x 2-3/4″, round corner
  • Strike reinforcer with 3″ screws
  • Large thumbturn
  • Keyed Alike
  • Keyway: SC1 / SC4
  • Certifications:  Meets Grade 1 BHMA requirements

Also, The New York Times has rated the  Schlage B60N as the Best Residential Door lock too. Professional locksmiths are offered a choice between this Schlage model and a similarly qualified deadbolt lock from Kwikset, they unanimously vote for Schlage.

Mr. Locksmith Vancouver BC recommends the Schlage B60N is our pick as the best deadbolt for residential customers. This single-cylinder lock is affordable, widely available. Schlage is known to be a top maker of heavy duty deadbolts. It produces different models designed for various purposes.

Best Residential Deadbolt Lock

What is the best residential deadbolt lock? It’s, this is not my opinion, My favorite Residential and Commerical deadbolt is the Schlage Locks. I really like the commercial grade. So we have a light-duty commercial, a heavy-duty commercial, and they have a residential version. And it has been rated by different magazines and articles as the best residential deadbolt. Nothing really close to this one. It’s called the Schlage B60N.

There are all sorts of different numbers that show the finish etc. So let’s just pull this apart and I’ll put it on the door and I’ll show you why this is probably the best residential lock, dollar for dollar. Now, if you know my videos, you know I love putting on the heavy-duty, the same locks I put on the hospitals and school boards and businesses, this is the heavy-duty. It’s quite solid and it’s made by the same company. So this is the Schlage B660. This is the 560, it’s a little bit lighter-duty version. And you’ve seen my videos on why I love these. These are more expensive, but they’re probably the best commercial locks. And if you look at your schools and your hospitals, this is what they’re using on most cases. Now, for residential, this is a great lock and I am going to show you what we have here. This is the B60N and let’s just see what we got here. Right off the bat, it’s a six-pin keyway. So this is the C-keyway of the SC1. So this is right off the bat, six-pin. Geez, that’s pretty good out of the box.

Lock Installation Vancouver West

Lock Installation Vancouver West

Resident, most residential are five-pin. This is a six-pin out of it. Let’s see what we got here. So this will be, now, this has an interesting bolt. Let’s pull the bolt out. The bolt is adjustable. Your most common, from the edge of the door to the center hole is either 2 3/8 or 2 3/4. And one of the biggest calls I have at nighttime or even daytime saying, “I bought a new lock and it’s too short.” Well, just, you know, read the instructions, or this one’s quite simple, just twist it. Now, occasionally we get the five-inch backsets, and that’s a topic for another video, but this is the most common, is 2 3/8 and 2 3/4. Now, what’s really good with this one, it comes with a kit. So I can change the faceplate here to fit whether it’s a drive-in, this is a rounded edge, right at the bat, it’ll do rounded edges. Square and drive-in. So I can just take off the little faceplate here and change it to whatever I have. So the drive-in is just where they just drill a round hole, you know, put it in, beveled edges. We are seeing a lot of doors come like this from the factory and the squared off. Now, this is such a simple install. Don’t throw this away. These are three inch screws go on the frame of the door. And you’re just putting these three inch screws and it really, really makes the door harder to kick in, so the frame harder to kick in. So your door usually gives way first and we have lots of videos on how to secure your doors but out of the box three inch screws, nice plate. If you put this in, it should catch the stud, make it make the frame way, way harder to kick in. So it’s got lots of options on this. So I’m quite impressed. It’s not pickable, but it’s such a good quality lock. It’s extremely, it can be difficult to pick. When we go to, if it’s a Weiser or Kwikset lock we’re laughing, we’re just gonna pick it in less than two minutes, usually, unless there’s other problems. When you come across and you see the Schlage sign on the on the lock, you’re going, ah, okay I’m gonna have to hustle.

Now the commercial grade stuff have, this uses what they call the classic key ways. So this is a C key way or an SC1. And that’s the residential versions. The commercial versions come with probably over a hundred different types of cylinders ranging from the Classic up to what they call the Everest and up to the Primus. The Primus is their high security locks that are rated, real, real ratings as pick resistance. And even the plane key that comes with it, they call the Everest, which is the C123 or the C129. Boy, those are hard to really pick. So I know we’re talking about the best residential lock. So this is the B60N and out of the box it comes with a six-pin. Now I’ve seen five-pin on these. So this is a unusual, so it’s a six-pin Schlage key way C or SC1 or Classic. Pretty simple and it’s got a spacer as well.

Best Residential Door Lock Installation Vancouver West

Measure from the edge of the door. You can see this, is that too short? Now we say, now I think this says on it, it says top. So we now have top. Sometimes you see Mickey Mouse ears. See the, there’s the Mickey Mouse ears, but it says top. So we know this is top, but let’s take a look at, see when this is too short, it’s not gonna go in. And this is such a common, people call us with this problem, it’s too short. So this is adjustable. Nice, quick, easy. Even says top. There’s the 2 3/4. And stay tuned to the end, I’ll show you a little bonus thing that they have. Now the other problem people have when they install these they go too crazy. They just crank these down and just, it just puts a bad twist on everything. Now, the other thing to make sure when you install your deadbolt that it always goes together perfect. This works for the good quality locks. The off shore stuff is another dog’s breakfast. When you put it on, have the bolt with the door open, of course. Have the bolt out. Then key out, don’t put the key in. The other problem people do is they put the key in. So bolt out, key out and then this goes together absolutely perfect every time. So you just put the tailpiece. Now, this is what we call it a lazy, a lazy tailpiece. See, it just turns a little bit. Don’t play with anything on here. Some of the big problems we have is people start pulling these apart. Watch other videos of how to re-key these. So the tailpiece just goes in perfect. Lock up, remember key out. The thumb turn. Now this is a single cylinder deadbolt, thumb turn will go on. And usually when this is aimed this way it’s locked. You can look at it from a distance that way it’s unlocked. So just pull it back a little bit, just put the screws in and what you usually wanna do is just start the screws. You can, these are a pretty good lock so they’re not gonna cross thread easily but just get it started, each side started. Just get it started. And then, again, we just want these snug. We don’t wanna crank them down. If you have a metal door, wood is a little bit better. Well, it’s not better it’s just a less likely to. The big problem is on some of the metal doors when you tighten these down really tight it pulls the metal in and then this will bind. So you see this as absolutely perfect. We have this, everything’s running really good. Turns nicely. And if we use the key. Check it before you lock yourself out. And it’s perfect. So, and make sure you take the key out, lock it, take the key out. Then, you know, it’s locked, lock, unlock it, take the key out. If that all works, the lock will be absolutely perfect. So why is this the best residential? The quality is light years and I’ll do a comparison in another video coming up. I’ll show you the other most, one of the most popular locks out there is the Kwikset Deadbolt. Whether you get the pin tumbler, Kwikset or the smart key you’ll see the difference in the quality. The Best Residental Door Lock for the money is the Schlage B660N

There is no comparison between the two. I like this for residential, even though I have the habit of more putting a commercial on our residential customers, this lock is a great lock for the price. It’s fantastic. It’s got the taper. It’s extremely difficult to pick or bump. I shouldn’t say extremely difficult. It’s not rated as pick-resistant. So let’s put it into reality here. Most locks are different ranges of being able to pick but this compared to a Kwikset or other locks this is gonna be way tougher to pick. And if you ask a reputable locksmith they will say, if they’re honest, that the Schlage, Schlage, Schlage are difficult to pick. It’s got a good quality, one-inch deadbolt, a good quality cylinder. Everything on this is very, very close to the commercial grade stuff. This is not gonna fall apart in five years, even 10 years, this is gonna be a good lock. One little side piece. If the lock, when it’s opened is working perfect with the key and with the lock. When you close the door, it tries it from the inside first it should just be nice and smooth like this. If it’s sticking, then you either have a strike, usually, it’s the strike is out of whack or it could be the doorframe, but usually, sometimes you may have to adjust your, on the frame you may have to adjust the strike. And if you look at my favorite locksmith tool is a bit of lipstick and you can see why. So watch that video, I’ll put a link to it, why this can help you if it’s sticking. Once everything’s perfect when the door is open, the lock is perfect. You close the door and it’s catching or it’s not locking. And I’ll show you how to fix that in our other video. Now, as a side bonus, they also have the Schlage B660 Deadbolt is in a what we call Weiser keyway or a W1. So it’s not the Kwikset keyway. So this is a thicker key than the Kwikset key or the KW1. So this is a Weiser, they call it a Falcon. And in this case they have a five-pin in here and it’s the same bolt. It’s just that the keyway is different. So they put, everything is the same except for they have a Weiser key. And I think that’s the only two versions they come in, they come in the Classic SC1 and they come in, they call it the Falcon or the, I call it the Weiser, that’s the most popular. Not popular in the US extremely popular in Canada is the Weiser keyway. So I think that’s why they sort of came out with this one. It’s okay. I’d rather have the, well, especially this, this is a six-pin real Schlage cylinder. And then we have this five-pin Weiser. I bet you that’d be extremely easy to pick. So between the two, this one’s gonna be really, gonna give us the run for the money. This one’s gonna pick in under two minutes and we’ll have other videos on that. Why is this the best residential deadbolt? It’s good. It’s good quality. It’s an extremely good lock. I like it. I would install this on anybody who wants it if they wanted a less expensive deadbolt. This is about as low as I will go. And this is extremely good quality.

I do not like installing Kwikset’s residential locks. I like Zero, the Yale, not that much better. Now we’ll do a comparison. This is the B60N. I’ll grab some more of them in the big box hardware stores. I’m gonna have a comparison, we’ll pick up a bunch of them and we’ll take a look but this is the best residential deadbolt available at the moment.
